We Are Roermond

Event platform for Roermond with smart filters and a calendar that is always right.

Roermond is buzzing all year round. We Are Roermond shows which festivals, markets, concerts and events are coming up, with filters and a date selection so visitors quickly see what is on during their stay.

We designed and built the platform, together with its sister site about living and working in Roermond. We also take care of maintenance and hosting.

The challenge

Both sites lived in one WordPress multisite. That caused problems with speed, multiple languages and findability, among other things.

The calendar also broke down in practice. Recurring and multi-day events did not come out right, and attractions that are open all year sat permanently at the top with "1 January to 31 December". Current events disappeared underneath them.

Our approach

We split the two sites and rebuilt both in Statamic, each with its own admin environment. The editors can now work per site without getting in each other's way.

The calendar runs from a single event list and handles recurring and multi-day events properly. Regular crowd-pullers can be pinned in a featured row. There is also a cookie notice per language, a map based on OpenStreetMap and a Mailchimp connection for the newsletter. We ran an accessibility round as well.

The result

The renewed platforms have been live since March 2026. The calendar shows what is actually going on: year-round attractions no longer push current events away, and multi-day or recurring events are correct.

We also keep the sites maintained.
